I am so bad! No posts since April? Can I use the excuse of being busy with my exchange student then leaving the country for two weeks?

Finished the yearbook in mid-June (I thought, but that's a long story for another day) and took Marion to Ocracoke on the Outer Banks.

Two weeks at home, then off to Germany! Rostock is a beautiful city in a beautiful part of Germany. I would go there again in a heartbeat if I could find cheap tickiets.

After that, it was on to a week in Paris. I tried staying with Marion, but the situation there was odd (again, more later) so I moved into the city for the final few days.

I will definitely try to get pictures up.

Oy! Here it is, almost the end of the school year before I remember to "blog" again!

New cats. They were living under the front porch with their mom and I found them in mid-October. Can't have a black cat outside in Saltillo for Halloween, so I brought them in. Momma was apparently getting ready to lose them any way, because she took off never to be seen again after I adopted her babies.

Teaching. The year is ending far too rapidly for yearbook deadlines. I'm home sick today, so will find out tomorrow if we even have five pages worth of senior class trip pictures.

Knitting. I've also taught an exchange student to knit! Marion made herself a big chunky scarf after we saw so many people wearing them in New York and fondles yarn quite readily. She still asks me, though, to make her specific things... like iPod socks.

I spent last Saturday at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. What fun! I got to meet Barbara Collins, listmom for DRU, and I behaved myself quite well as far as purchases. Only yarn for two pairs of socks, a circular needle row counter, and some Knit Knack cards. I think I'll go early again, so I have time to see everything before the crowds.

Hurricane Ivan Hits Saltillo!

Well! An exciting weekend in Saltillo... or at least an exciting Friday night/Saturday morning. The remnants of Hurricane Ivan came and sat over Pennsylvania, sending small streams over their banks and into our basements. At least in this part of PA they are just SMALL streams! Harrisburg is getting flooded this (Sunday) morning as it is along the Susquehanna River. (Good thoughts to everyone there!)

The basement had four feet in it. The furnace was completely underwater, but my neighbors the plumbing and heating repair guys knew what to do to get it working again once the fire company had me pumped out. Fred was also able to install a new sump pump for me. The old one tried valiantly, but twelve hours of submersion with no rests did it in. I forgot to haul the dehumidifier up the stairs, so it needs replaced as well. After 1986 there was nothing else of value down there, just a muddy mess of old plastic jugs and paper bags that the cats had knocked onto the floor.

Marion has been home from school for three days with an attack of cystitis. I was a little upset to find that she felt well enough on Friday to clean my admittedly in need of it kitchen. I think if she felt that well, she should have come to school. Oh, well. I'll be more insistent next time.

At one point early Saturday morning, I did get worried and move some things up stairs... the important things... all the bags of yarn and WIPs I had in the living room! Most everything else could have been replaced, but the water stayed in the basement where damage was minimal.
